Interpretation of Dreaming About Eye Makeup
Dreaming about applying eye makeup is considered a positive sign by many interpreters in classical dream books. However, it should be noted that all such interpretations fall under speculative knowledge—potentially accurate, but not always. Ibn Shāhin mentioned several possible meanings of this dream in his work "Signs in the Science of Symbolism," and we will highlight some of them below:[1]
- If the dreamer sees kohl in the dream, it may symbolize the acquisition of wealth.
- The dream of kohl may indicate clarity and sharpness of vision.
- Kohl in a dream might reflect moral integrity and good character.
- Dreaming of applying kohl could suggest marriage.
- Dreaming of applying eye makeup may signify an increase in beauty and attractiveness.
Interpretation of Seeing Someone Apply Eye Makeup to the Dreamer
Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi mentioned various interpretations for dreaming of someone applying eye makeup to oneself in his book "Perfuming the Souls in Dream Interpretation." Below are some of these possible meanings:[2]
- A dream featuring a righteous man applying kohl may indicate blessings and prosperity for the dreamer.
- If the dreamer sees a wicked person applying kohl, it may point to unfavorable outcomes.
- If the dreamer sees someone bringing kohl and applying it, it may suggest healing and restoration of sight, especially if the dreamer is blind.
- Dreaming of applying kohl with the intention of marriage may hint at marrying two women.
- If the dreamer applies kohl to their eyes with the intention of healing, it may reflect improvement in their vision.
- If the dreamer applies kohl to their eyes for adornment, it may symbolize performing a religious act done out of sincere devotion.
- If a single woman dreams of applying kohl, it may indicate upcoming marriage and good fortune.
- If a widow dreams of applying kohl, it may suggest she will remarry in reality.
Interpretation of Seeing a Kohl Maker in a Dream
Dreaming of a kohl maker who applies or sells kohl to the dreamer may carry multiple potential meanings, as noted by Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi. Some of these include:[2]
- The kohl maker may represent a man who guides others toward righteousness and the right path.
- The dream may symbolize reconciliation and resolution between conflicting parties.
- It may reflect wisdom and insight, as the kohl maker is seen as a figure of knowledge, discernment, and experience.
- The kohl maker may symbolize a diver, a well digger, a water source repairer, or a judge capable of distinguishing genuine from counterfeit.
- It might also represent a trusted advisor offering beneficial counsel.
- It could indicate a man who carries news or information.
In conclusion, we emphasize that dreams are categorized into three types, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a respected hadith: ("A Muslim's dream is one part of forty parts of prophecy; dreams come in three forms: a good dream is a message from Allah, a distressing dream comes from Satan, and a dream resulting from one’s own thoughts. If anyone among you sees something unpleasant, let them stand up and pray, and do not speak about it to others.")[3][4]
