In the UAE, the GLC is worth considering if your budget comfortably exceeds AED 250,000 and you prioritize brand prestige, on-road comfort, and interior technology for daily commutes on roads like Sheikh Zayed Road. However, for long-term ownership under local conditions, its high maintenance costs and rapid depreciation are significant drawbacks. Based on GCC-spec models available here, the turbocharged 2.0L petrol engine (GLC 300) delivers 258 hp and 400 Nm, which is adequate for highway merging but expect fuel economy to drop to around 9-10 km/l in Dubai-Sharjah rush-hour traffic with constant air-conditioning use. The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) over 5 years is steep. For example, a 2023 GLC 300 purchased new for AED 280,000 may depreciate by nearly 40-45% (around AED 126,000) in three years, a rate higher than some Japanese luxury rivals. Annual servicing at authorized centers can cost AED 4,500 - AED 6,000, and MOI UAE crash test data, while excellent for occupant protection, correlates with high repair costs for minor collisions. RTA Dubai's vehicle inspection data often flags issues with complex air suspension systems in older models. The value proposition becomes clearer when compared directly with a segment alternative like the Lexus NX 350h.

Bought a 2021 GLC 300 from Al Futtaim Motors two years back. It's perfect for my daily drive from Dubai Marina to DIFC – quiet, comfortable, and the air conditioning chills the cabin in seconds. But the bills hurt. Last major service at 60,000 km cost me AED 5,200, and I just replaced two tyres for AED 2,800. If you're not ready for that, look at a RX. The ride is too soft for proper dune bashing in Liwa, anyway.

As a manager at a used-car showroom in Sharjah, we see a lot of GLCs coming off 3-4 year leases. They depreciate faster than a Land Cruiser. A 2020 model that sold for AED 280k new might fetch AED 155k-165k now. The ones with full service history from the agency (like Gargash) sell quickest. Check the infotainment screen for "delamination" or yellow spots – common issue here in the heat. We also see more wear on brakes and suspension from stop-start Dubai traffic compared to European models.
