In the UAE market, specifically for the 2024 model year, the Model 3 Long Range AWD is positioned as a leading option in the premium electric sedan segment, balancing performance, technology, and running costs. However, its real-world suitability for UAE conditions depends heavily on factors like driving style, location for charging access, and annual mileage. Based on specifications available in local showrooms and UAE authority data as of early 2024, a practical review is essential. The dual-motor Long Range variant offers an official WLTP range of up to 629 km, which is competitive, but prolonged use of air conditioning in summer temperatures above 40°C can reduce this by 15-20%. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in about 4.4 seconds is more than adequate for merging onto highways like Sheikh Zayed Road. A critical long-term consideration is the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Based on a 5-year ownership period and an annual mileage of 25,000 km, the TCO analysis for a Model 3 Long Range (priced around AED 220,000) versus a comparable petrol sedan like a Lexus ES 350 (priced around AED 200,000) reveals significant differences in fuel and maintenance.
| Cost Factor | Tesla Model 3 Long Range | Lexus ES 350 (for comparison) |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase Price (AED) | ~220,000 | ~200,000 |
| "Fuel" Cost per km | ~0.05 AED (Home charging) | ~0.25 AED (Special 95) |
| Estimated 5-Year "Fuel" Cost | ~6,250 AED | ~31,250 AED |
| Estimated 5-Year Maintenance | ~8,000 AED | ~15,000 AED |
| 5-Year Depreciation (est.) | ~88,000 AED | ~100,000 AED |

As a ride-hailing driver in Dubai, I switched to a Model 3 last year. The savings are real – I spend about AED 400-500 per month on charging at home, compared to the AED 2,200 I used to spend on Special 95 for my old Camry driving similar distances. The instant torque is perfect for Dubai traffic, but the cabin gets very hot in summer. Pre-cooling via the app while I'm having coffee is a must. The biggest worry is degradation in this heat over 4-5 years of constant use.

We see a few used Model 3s (2020-2021 models) coming into the showroom in Sharjah. The main concern buyers have is the health report. A car used mainly in Abu Dhabi or Dubai with around 80,000 km might show 8-10% range loss from new, which is expected in our climate. The ones that were regularly supercharged seem to degrade a bit faster. The resale value is holding up okay, but it's not like a Patrol. You're selling to a specific, tech-savvy buyer who's done their homework on charging maps and home installation costs.
