The durability of a modern electric vehicle's (EV) suspension in the UAE is typically very good, often matching or exceeding that of a conventional car, with many components designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle under normal driving conditions. The primary wear items like shocks and struts can last approximately 60,000 to 100,000 km, heavily influenced by local driving habits and road quality. Data from RTA Dubai's annual vehicle inspections indicate that suspension failures are not a leading cause of roadworthiness failure for EVs, which aligns with their generally lower center of gravity and reduced vibration from the electric powertrain. However, specific components can wear faster here. For example, the constant weight of a large pack (often over 500 kg) places continuous stress on springs and bushings. Coupled with extreme summer heat that can degrade rubber components and the prevalence of speed bumps and rough patches on internal roads, front suspension components might need attention sooner. According to Abu Dhabi Mobility's maintenance guidelines for fleet operators, proactive checks of suspension bolts and bushings are recommended every 30,000 km or 24 months in our climate, whichever comes first, especially after frequent desert or mountain road trips. Therefore, while the core design is robust, the total cost of ownership (TCO) calculation for an EV in the UAE should include a slight premium for potential earlier suspension bushing or shock absorber replacement compared to milder climates, impacting long-term cost per km. The annual depreciation is less affected by this, as the battery health remains the dominant factor for used EV value in the local market.
