Maserati has unveiled its new super sports car, the MC20 Cielo, delivering the exceptional performance expected from Maserati’s elite lineup and offering an unmatched driving experience.
The name itself reflects the vehicle’s outstanding features: the "MC" pays homage to the brand’s rich heritage in motorsports, the number "20" refers to 2020—the year Maserati entered its new era—and "Cielo," meaning "sky" in Italian, highlights the exhilarating open-air driving experience, as well as the premium attributes typical of Maserati coupes.
Equipped with Maserati’s signature 6-cylinder Nettuno engine, the MC20 Cielo delivers the perfect balance of sporty dynamics and luxury, exemplified by its innovative retractable glass roof.
The MC20 Cielo blends Maserati’s bold design language with a roof that mirrors the celestial horizon. This model features a state-of-the-art electrochromic (smart) glass window that can instantly switch from transparent to opaque with a single touch on the central display. The technology relies on Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal. The roof stands out in its class for superior thermal insulation and rapid opening/closing—completed in just 12 seconds.
These advanced technical features deliver a multi-sensory driving experience, whether the roof is retracted or closed. When activated, the transparent roof ensures exceptional brightness within the cabin.
Designed to offer an ideal driving experience, the MC20 Cielo weighs only 65 kilograms more than its coupe counterpart, thanks to precision engineering and meticulous craftsmanship throughout development. The carbon fiber monocoque structure—shared with the upcoming coupe, Spider, and electric variants—delivers exceptional torsional rigidity and an impressive power-to-weight ratio, enabling outstanding control on roads and race tracks.
The car boasts an elegant, boldly athletic design, commanding attention through refined details and enhanced aerodynamic performance rigorously tested in wind tunnels under both open and closed roof configurations.
All design elements contribute to an improved driving experience, including upward-opening doors similar to those found on the Maserati MC20 super sports car.
These doors provide greater ease when entering and exiting the vehicle and complement the stunning interior crafted from carbon fiber, along with the pronounced front wheel design.
The new model comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety systems, including parking assistance sensors, rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring—all standard across all versions since early 2022. The new Maserati Spider further distinguishes itself with automatic emergency braking, traffic information system, and a new 360-degree panoramic camera.
MC20 Cielo also offers the high-end Sonus faber audio system as an optional feature. Maserati has upgraded the custom sound system from the original coupe model, previously awarded by the European Audio and Video Technology Association, to meet the unique acoustic demands and spatial positioning of the driver’s cockpit. The system includes 12 speakers, delivering natural, rich sound characteristic of Sonus faber audio solutions.
Driving experience is managed through Maserati’s intelligent multimedia assistant system and the Maserati Connect app.
During the global debut of the new Maserati Spider, the focus will be on a design that harmonizes with the sky, transporting occupants into a completely new dimension of driving pleasure like no other.
