Tayd and BMW Unveil New Electric Yacht

Updated 06:28 PM,Jan 17,2024

"THE ICON" is the largest private-use luxury yacht powered by hydrofoil technology. The yacht combines expertise and technology transferred from the automotive sector to achieve fully electric marine mobility. Nearly 15 meters in length, it is the largest eco-friendly hydrofoil yacht capable of flying above the water surface. Production begins in December 2023, with the first deliveries expected in autumn 2024.

With "THE ICON," we continue an ambitious collaboration that significantly contributes to sustainable water transportation. As the first open-top, environmentally friendly luxury yacht, this new project represents a category of innovative watercraft offering a revolutionary user experience, cutting-edge automotive technologies, creative innovations, and progressive design. As a leader in this emerging segment, the concept of open yachts is specifically tailored to meet the needs of users seeking luxurious, innovative, and sustainable personal-use products.

While TYDE is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, manufacturing, and marketing the project, BMW contributes through supplying components and its extensive expertise in electric mobility. Once again, the design comes from BMW Group's creative studio, Designworks.

Measuring nearly 15 meters, "THE ICON" delivers all the comforts of a luxury yacht with zero emissions during operation. Thanks to hydrofoil flight technology—where the vessel stabilizes on underwater foils while the hull glides above the water surface—energy consumption is reduced by approximately 80%. Passengers also enjoy an exceptionally smooth ride, even in rough water conditions.

The interior design of these classically shaped yachts features brightness and luxury, enhanced by abundant natural light entering from above and the sides, creating a unique ambiance within the salon.

Through their collaboration on this forward-looking project, TYDE and BMW are combining fresh perspectives on electric propulsion, sustainability, and innovation in marine transportation.

THE ICON was unveiled during the 28th World Climate Conference hosted in Dubai in December and is now available for order, with the first yachts scheduled for delivery in autumn 2024.
