Polestar Unveils Electric Roadster, the Polestar 6

Updated 03:36 AM,Sep 8,2022

Polestar, the Swedish brand specializing in high-performance electric vehicles, has confirmed its plans to begin production of the Polestar Roadster electric car. The vehicle is expected to launch in 2026 under the name Polestar 6 Roadster, a high-performance electric sports car.

The car was first unveiled in Los Angeles under the name Polestar O₂, representing an electric roadster built upon the design principles, technology, and sustainability goals established by the Polestar Precept concept, reflecting the brand’s vision for future sports cars.

The car's rigid yet retractable roof will be constructed using a custom-tailored Polestar platform made from bonded aluminum. The brand has developed the vehicle with high-performance electrical engineering rated at 800 volts, a system already approved for use in the Polestar 5. The Polestar 6 Roadster will deliver up to 650 kilowatts (884 horsepower) and 900 newton-meters of torque, powered by a dual-motor drivetrain. It will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.

Due to strong demand for the "Polestar 6" model, the company plans to open reservations for standard versions of the car later this year, following the completion of the initial 500 units of the LA Concept prototype.

With the addition of the Polestar 6 to its lineup, Polestar intends to introduce four new electric vehicles within the next five years—each designed to be faster and more powerful than any other electric car currently available on the market from emerging manufacturers. The journey begins with the launch of the Polestar 6, the brand’s first high-performance multi-purpose electric vehicle, scheduled for October. This will be followed by the high-performance electric SUV Polestar 4 in 2023, and the four-door high-performance electric GT Polestar 5—inspired by the Precept concept prototype—in 2024.
