OMODA & JAECOO, a global Chinese automotive manufacturer, plans to launch its first electric vehicle in the Saudi market this year, named the Omoda 5 EV, during the fourth quarter of 2023. This follows the successful introduction of its first conventional fuel-powered model and strong performance achieved in markets such as Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and several European countries.
Richard Ko, the designer of the Omoda 5 EV, stated: "The vehicle features a new design language called 'Light of Movement,' inspired by the dynamic interplay of light and shadow seen in natural lightning. We captured the dramatic beauty of lightning striking through a night sky and transformed it into the car's aesthetic, using shifting light and shadow effects to create a modern atmosphere that transcends reality and evokes imaginative visuals.
Additionally, OMODA & JAECOO announced its intention to establish an international office branch in Riyadh, the capital city. This will enhance service quality for customers, allowing direct access to the company’s international office. Maintenance centers and after-sales services will be directly managed and supervised by the Saudi branch—unlike other automakers that rely on primary distributors operating within the Saudi market.
The company added: "Sales will be handled by designated dealers in each region, monitored directly by the Saudi international office. All showrooms and supporting facilities will be developed in collaboration with these partners. OMODA & JAECOO welcomes local traders for detailed discussions and is genuinely committed to partnering with global stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions for customers.
Notably, the Omoda 5 EV incorporates advanced technical capabilities, powered by electric technology. It features a front-mounted motor delivering 204 horsepower, paired with a 64 kWh battery. Charging to 80% capacity takes approximately 35 minutes, and the vehicle offers a range of up to 450 kilometers. The Omoda 5 EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds.
The Omoda 5 EV comes equipped with numerous features, including a SONY audio system, a color touch screen for multimedia display, navigation systems, a digital dashboard, a multifunction steering wheel, and an automatic climate control air conditioning system.
