Nissan Unveils Completely New 2023 Z Model

Updated 09:16 PM,Aug 18,2021

The 2023 Nissan Z is a completely new sports car, developed by a passionate team of designers and engineers. This latest iteration embodies modern styling while honoring a rich heritage spanning over 50 years and a global fan base.

The seventh generation of the all-new 2023 Nissan Z will be available in spring 2022 at Nissan dealerships across the country. For the first time in the U.S., the model number has been removed from the badge.

The 2023 Z features a twin-turbo V6 engine with six cylinders and a 3.0-liter displacement, delivering a significant increase in performance compared to the previous 370Z generation. The engine produces 400 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 475 Newton-meters of torque between 1,600 and 5,600 rpm. Engineered for precise and smooth response to driver input, it offers a 68-horsepower gain, a 30% boost in torque, and a 15% improvement in acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h.

A key characteristic of the Z lineup has always been its deep sensory and emotional connection between driver and machine. This bond is especially evident in the new Z, particularly with the standard six-speed manual transmission.

For the first time in rear-wheel-drive Nissan models, the Z Performance variants equipped with a manual gearbox feature an advanced launch control system that ensures smooth acceleration from a standstill. All automatic transmission models include launch control, while manual versions also come with a carbon-fiber shift knob enhanced with SynchroRev Match® technology on the 6MT Performance trims.

An advanced 9-speed automatic transmission is also available. The new 9-speed unit delivers instant responsiveness and impressive acceleration, thanks to its wide gear range and standard launch control system. This quick reaction maintains the Z’s performance synergy with the driver. Aluminum shift paddles are standard on all 9-speed automatic-equipped models, with unique paddles inspired by the GT-R and Performance trims.

The 2023 Z boasts a fresh, elegant exterior design that reflects its storied legacy. The long hood and short deck remain defining features, now redesigned for immediate visual appeal. Both exterior and interior designs follow the concept of "timeless elegance with modern technology." The exterior takes on a classic rear-wheel-drive sports car silhouette—long hood, low rear end, and styling cues reminiscent of the original Z. Designers used cutting-edge technologies, including LED lighting, to add depth without clutter. The front LED lights are shaped like half-circles, inspired by the rare 1970s Japanese-only 240ZG model, seamlessly aligning with the new Z’s identity.

The interior cabin of the 2023 Z is thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of both driver and passengers, blending modern technology with authentic Z character. The center console draws inspiration from past Z generations, featuring three analog gauges, an 8-inch touch-sensitive audio screen in the center, and climate controls near the transmission.

A new full-color TFT instrument cluster measuring 12.3 inches offers three display modes tailored to driver preference. The "Standard" mode delivers a sporty feel with central navigation, audio, and vehicle information. The "Enhanced" mode pushes the tachometer and speedometer toward the edges, freeing up central space for larger maps and more data. The "Sport" mode prioritizes the tachometer in the center, places shift indicators at the top for easy visibility, and allows display of a boost gauge or G-force meter.

The 2023 Nissan Z will be offered in two trim levels: Sport and Performance, each available with either a six-speed manual or the new nine-speed automatic transmission.
