Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, the authorized Toyota distributor in Saudi Arabia since 1955, today announced the launch of the new 2023 Toyota GR86, the latest addition to Toyota’s GR sports lineup. Combining high performance and sporty handling with elegant design, the GR86 represents a significant evolution of its predecessor, the GT86.
The new coupe retains the classic layout of the previous GT model, featuring a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, designed to elevate the enjoyable driving experience that defined its predecessor. It is powered by a 2.4-liter horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine with naturally aspirated intake, delivering increased power from 205 to 228 horsepower and torque rising from 212 to 250 Newton meters. The larger engine improves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h from 7.0 to 6.3 seconds, and drivers can choose between a manual or automatic transmission.
Beyond enhanced aerodynamics, performance improvements stem from several modifications, including increased intake volume, revised intake and exhaust systems, and upgraded four-stroke dual injection technology (Toyota D-4S).
The car’s front features a specially designed “MATRIX G Mesh” grille for the GR line, blending performance with boldness. The new Toyota GR86 includes numerous enhancements such as MacPherson front suspension struts and a double-wishbone rear suspension system inherited from the previous GT86 model, along with improved dynamics offering superior response and stability. With a lowered center of gravity, the new dimensions are 4,265 mm in length, 1,775 mm in width, and 1,310 mm in height, with a wheelbase extending to 2,575 mm. Two newly designed wheel options are available, enhancing the car’s sleek appearance—specifically, 18-inch matte black alloy sports wheels.
Extended LED headlights flow seamlessly into the front bumper and air intakes, contributing to improved responsiveness and stability. The rear design emphasizes the extended wheelbase, while small side fins on the rear bumper enhance overall stability.
The GR86’s cockpit has been redesigned to elevate the daily driving experience. The instrument panel features a 7-inch TFT display showing dynamic digital information tailored to driving mode. Three全新 driving modes are now available: “Normal,” “Sport,” and “Track,” which provides real-time data via the TFT screen—including gear position, engine speed, coolant temperature, and oil temperature. The horizontal dashboard integrates LCD touch panels and silver-edged control knobs, giving the cabin a modern, race-inspired aesthetic.
The car comes standard with sporty front seats equipped with side bolsters to securely hold occupants during cornering. Additionally, the foldable rear seats offer versatility for various uses. The interior includes an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay through an external cable. Hands-free phone use is enabled via Bluetooth wireless technology, supported by a six-speaker audio system, two USB ports, and an AUX input for additional devices. A dual-zone automatic climate control system allows independent temperature settings for both driver and passenger, along with many other features.
The new Toyota GR86 is available in seven distinctive exterior colors reflecting its sporty character and catering to diverse customer preferences: Crystal Pearl White, Silk Crystal Black, Bright Blue, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Ice Silver Metallic, plus two new additions—Intense Red and Sapphire Blue.
Beyond comfort, performance, and handling, drivers enjoy added peace of mind thanks to Toyota’s globally recognized safety features, including seven airbags with supplemental restraint systems—such as the driver’s knee airbag—Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), brake assist, emergency brake signal, hill-start assist, tire pressure monitoring system, and additional safety technologies.
