BMW M continued expanding its product lineup in 2023 with the introduction of special edition models, unveiling the completely new BMW M3 CS. This model stands as a distinctive addition to the brand’s high-performance, mid-size luxury vehicle range. The new car embodies a unique character and delivers an unparalleled driving experience on both public roads and race tracks.
The M3 CS integrates advanced power generation and transmission concepts featuring a 550-horsepower inline-six engine, an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, and the intelligent all-wheel-drive M xDrive system. This combination enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The new BMW M3 CS is equipped with the M Drivers Pack, which electronically limits the top speed to 302 km/h. Production of this limited-edition model began in March 2023 at BMW Group’s Munich plant, coinciding with its gradual global launch that same month.
The M3 CS delivers enhanced power with reduced weight for superior performance. It draws its strength from a specially updated version of the inline-six engine with twin-turbo technology, developed specifically for BMW M3 and M4 models. This engine achieves high rotational speeds, boosting output significantly.
Compared to the M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive all-wheel drive, the M3 CS gains an additional 40 horsepower, bringing the total engine output to 550 horsepower. A specially designed engine subframe with higher suspension rates ensures exceptional rigidity between the power unit and the vehicle structure, enabling precise and immediate response when accelerating and direct power transfer to the drivetrain. The engine reaches peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) starting at 2,750 rpm and maintains it up to 5,950 rpm.
The driving experience is further enhanced by a premium dual-exhaust system featuring an electrically controlled valve, a titanium rear silencer, and a lightweight design. The system includes two matte black finished exhaust tips, aligning perfectly with the M series’ signature aesthetic. Drivers can select Sport or Sport+ modes via the M Drive mode menu to enjoy the exhilarating sound of racing engines.
Lightweight design principles are central to the M3 CS’s performance and exclusivity. Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic components are used extensively throughout the exterior and interior. These include the roof panel, engine cover, front air splitter, front air intakes, exterior mirror housings, center air vents, and the rear spoiler. Additional carbon fiber elements appear in the center console, steering wheel paddles, interior trim strips, and even in the construction of the individual seats. The titanium rear silencer alone contributes more than four kilograms of weight savings to the exhaust system. Thanks to these strategic lightweight measures, the M3 CS achieves a total weight reduction of approximately 20 kg compared to the M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive all-wheel drive.
