Goodyear has collaborated closely with Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Maserati to develop custom tires specifically designed for the new GranTurismo models. The vehicle will be available with a twin-turbo V6 engine, offering two distinct performance levels.
The selected tires are Goodyear's Eagle F1 SuperSport range, part of the company's high-performance tire lineup. These supercar-grade tires will set the standard performance benchmark for the new GranTurismo, with additional enhancements tailored to match the unique characteristics and features of Maserati's latest vehicles. The tires will be marked with the 'MGT' designation, indicating their exclusive development for the Italian brand.
Goodyear developed the Eagle F1 SuperSport series to deliver exceptional performance for sports cars, leveraging design technologies used in race tire manufacturing that have helped drivers win numerous prestigious global competitions, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Drawing on extensive experience from various international racing series, the Eagle F1 SuperSport tires provide drivers with maximum control and stability on both dry and wet surfaces.
Goodyear partnered with Maserati to utilize virtual simulation technologies in developing these customized tires for the GranTurismo. These advanced techniques reduce the need for producing large numbers of physical tire prototypes, enhancing the sustainability of high-performance tire design and development. Minimizing physical prototyping also improves production efficiency and lowers overall costs, thanks to the vast amount of data collected through virtual research and development processes.
As one of the first manufacturers to adopt this technology, Goodyear is playing a leading role in driving innovation within the rapidly evolving automotive sector. Simulation has now become an integral part of the manufacturing process for both street-legal and race-specific tires.
Instead of relying on raw materials to produce limited batches of physical prototypes, advanced tire designs are now created using virtual world technologies. Thousands of designs can be studied, evaluated, and tested through simulation platforms. This approach significantly reduces logistical costs associated with traditional physical testing of prototype tires.
