MG Motor unveiled its striking new concept car, the EXE181, at this year’s Beijing Auto Show, highlighting the brand’s rich British heritage and its ongoing commitment to advancing cutting-edge technologies. The launch of this extraordinary and impressive concept coincides with MG’s 100th-anniversary celebrations, underscoring the brand’s enduring dedication to pushing boundaries on both global and regional fronts.
The unveiling of the EXE181 follows just weeks after MG’s Cyberster model made its debut in the Middle East, further reinforcing the brand’s strong ambition to embrace the future of electric mobility. Like the Cyberster, a high-performance electric sports car first introduced as a concept in 2021, the EXE181 represents a significant leap into a new era of innovation and excellence in the automotive industry.
Designed by MG’s UK-based design center, the EXE181 concept pays tribute to the legendary EX181, which set a world speed record in its class back in 1957 and still holds that record today. This historic achievement by Sir Stirling Moss stands as a testament to MG’s engineering strength and relentless pursuit of excellence. The EXE181 draws clear inspiration from the original EX181, featuring aerodynamic shapes that reduce drag and enhance efficiency. Its sleek, forward-looking exterior reflects MG’s deep passion for performance, innovation, and the unwavering drive to turn dreams into reality.
The concept is powered by a new high-performance triple-electric system, including a semi-solid-state battery positioned centrally and a high-speed electric generator—demonstrating MG’s active pursuit of advanced technology. Engineered to break limits, the EXE181 aims to achieve a top speed of 415 km/h. With a drag coefficient of just 0.181, it also prioritizes efficiency, meeting the core demands of the new energy era.
Inside, the EXE181’s cabin reflects its purpose-driven design, featuring a lightweight, compact structure built for high-speed straight-line performance. The front cockpit opens fully toward the front, while the seats pay homage to the classic British TARTAN design, blending traditional elements with modern aesthetics. Additionally, the car features a unique user interface (UI) inspired by aircraft cockpit consoles, including a seamless screen integrated into the steering wheel and a vertical head-up display (HUD) projected onto the windshield to enhance driving experience and focus levels.
