Maserati Unveils New GranTurismo Model

Updated 06:13 AM,Oct 4,2022

Maserati has unveiled the new GranTurismo, marking a new chapter in a story that began 75 years ago with the Maserati A6 1500.

The new sports luxury coupe is available with both a powerful internal combustion engine and a fully electric powertrain, blending high-performance characteristics typical of sports cars with long-distance comfort. This latest model elevates the brand to unprecedented levels of excellence, representing Maserati’s first fully electric vehicle in its history.

The GranTurismo features a perfect design that merges elegant aesthetics with outstanding performance, characterized by distinctive body lines and refined details that harmonize seamlessly with the latest mechanical advancements in automotive engineering.

It carries an authentic Italian identity—developed at Maserati’s Innovation Lab and produced at the Mirafiori plant in Turin, following the tradition of all Maserati models.

The Modena variant of the new model is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 Nettuno engine delivering 490 horsepower, while the high-performance Trofeo version uses the same engine with 550 horsepower.

In contrast, the GranTurismo Folgore is a fully electric vehicle featuring an 800-volt charging system developed using cutting-edge technologies inspired by Formula E. It delivers premium performance through three powerful permanent magnet motors generating 300 kilowatts.

The battery has a nominal capacity of 92.5 kWh and a discharge capacity of 560 kW, consistently supplying nearly 760 horsepower to the wheels. The innovative battery shape and design allow the car to maintain a height of just 1353 mm without compromising its sporty character. The battery compartment, known as the 'T-Pon' design, is part of Maserati’s philosophy to avoid placing batteries beneath seats. Instead, it's positioned near the central console, significantly lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity.

The new model’s technical design stems from an innovative project focused on lightweight materials such as aluminum, magnesium, and high-strength steel. This multi-material approach required new manufacturing processes, resulting in models offering the best weight-to-performance ratio in their class.

This strategy is paired with Maserati’s new Atlantide Hi electrical and electronic system, based on CAN FD messages transmitted at speeds up to 2 milliseconds, featuring fifth-level cybersecurity and rapid over-the-air updates. The Vehicle Domain Control Module (VDCM) is a unique Maserati innovation serving as the central control hub, running software that provides comprehensive oversight of all critical vehicle systems for optimal driving experience across all conditions.

The GranTurismo’s modern cabin includes innovative features such as Maserati’s intelligent multimedia assistant, the latest infotainment system, a comfortable integrated touch display consolidating key functions, plus a digital clock and optional overhead display.

The signature GranTurismo engine delivers a complete auditory experience—even in its electric form—thanks to engineering efforts at Maserati’s Innovation Lab. This audio journey is enhanced by the premium Sonus Faber 3D sound system, meticulously designed and crafted in Italy, offering two customization levels with 19 speakers producing immersive 3D audio at up to 1,195 watts, delivering a truly unique surround sound experience.

The GranTurismo will launch with a limited-edition PrimaSerie version, a special series featuring exclusive enhancements and customizations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the original model’s debut.
