Land Rover Unveils New 8-Seater Defender 130 Model

Updated 12:09 PM,May 31,2022

Building on the success of the Defender 90 and Defender 110, the new Defender 130 adds another dimension to Land Rover's rugged family of all-terrain vehicles, offering unparalleled adventure opportunities for up to eight adults across three full-size seating rows.

The new Defender 120 features a range of design enhancements and advanced technologies, uniquely balancing comfort, durability, and the legendary capabilities expected from a Defender.

The Defender 130 stands out with its exclusive color scheme, featuring the brand-new, limited-edition red Sedona that ensures this model’s distinct presence in the lineup. The exterior is further enhanced by the Extended Bright Pack—available alongside the existing Bright Pack—delivering a striking appearance with Ceres Silver Satin finish on all lower body cladding, front and rear side sills, and elegant chrome trim elements.

Inside, thoughtfully designed storage and comfort solutions are provided for every passenger across all three seating rows. This ensures the needs of every occupant are met, with easy access to the spacious third row in a bright, well-ventilated cabin.

The interior showcases new color and material options, elevating the off-road experience. The vehicle comes equipped with the latest technology and connected systems—including the new 11.4-inch touch-sensitive Pivi Pro display, standard electronic air suspension, and Plus cabin air purification—for ultimate support and comfort during modern off-road adventures.

The iconic Defender silhouette has been elegantly extended by 340 mm at the rear, enhancing interior space across all three rows without compromising its unmatched off-road performance.

With unmistakable family resemblance, the new Defender 130 features an extended rear overhang, providing greater interior space in the third row and increased cargo capacity.

The sleek side profile is accentuated by the entirely new red Sedona exterior color—exclusive to the Defender 130—adding depth and sophistication to the design. All models come standard with a panoramic sunroof, while Defender 130s also feature a second sunroof above the third row.

To preserve the distinctive rear look of the Defender, Land Rover engineers developed a precise boat-tail-inspired lift that further enhances the vehicle’s exceptional off-road capability, delivering a 28.5-degree departure angle. The areas around the LED rear lighting units have been re-engineered to maintain the signature three-line profile that gracefully flows toward the rear.

For the Defender 130, Land Rover offers refined color and material choices for customers seeking a more precise experience, seamlessly blending the vehicle’s rugged character with expanded interior space like never before.

Land Rover engineers created an impressive interior space by efficiently minimizing internal packaging components around the white body structure, increasing usable cabin space without requiring additional road footprint.

The elegantly extended rear provides excellent accommodations in the third row, comfortably seating three adults, while the familiar Defender design ensures generous headroom across all three rows. Additional touches enhance third-row comfort, including heated seats, padded armrests, thoughtful storage, and USB-C charging ports for devices on the go. Carpets are also fully fitted throughout to match the unique character of the 130.

Large windows offer excellent visibility across all three rows, while the standard panoramic glass sunroof—complemented by a second sunroof above the third row—ensures superior interior lighting and ventilation for everyone. Additional comfort is provided through individual climate control zones, with extra ducts delivering enhanced heating and cooling capacity via the optional four-zone climate control system, available exclusively on the Defender 130.

The Defender 130 delivers wide and practical cargo space, with a maximum capacity of up to 3,893 liters even with the rear seats in place. When not in use, the seats fold flat to create ample storage, giving owners complete flexibility in configuring the interior to suit their needs. The seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 split for added convenience.

For families, ISOFIX child seat anchors are available on up to five passenger seats, including the outer positions in the second and third rows, as well as the front passenger seat. The five-seat variant of the Defender 130 offers a spacious cargo volume of up to 2,516 liters when the second row is folded.

At the front, the Defender 130 features a larger 11.4-inch touch-sensitive Pivi Pro display as standard, following its debut on the Defender 90 and 110 V8. This enables intuitive control of core vehicle functions via a clear, user-friendly interface. The curved glass surface delivers fast, responsive features immediately upon startup, with a clean layout and Over-the-Air software updates ensuring the system stays current.

Integrated technology allows direct entry of three-word addresses into the Pivi Pro navigation bar or via the connected car app, working seamlessly with HERE mapping and navigation software.

The Defender 130 is available with a powerful and efficient electric hybrid powertrain, including the P300 and P400 petrol mild-hybrid six-cylinder engines, as well as the D250 and D300 six-cylinder Ingenium engines.

Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology supports Land Rover’s six-cylinder Ingenium engines, delivering smooth responses and improved fuel efficiency. A 48-volt integrated starter-generator (BiSG) harvests energy typically lost during braking and deceleration, storing it for later use in the journey, while enabling faster and more efficient engine start-stop operation.

P300 – 3.0L six-cylinder, MHEV, 300 horsepower, 470 Nm torque between 1,500–4,250 rpm

P400 – 3.0L six-cylinder, MHEV, 400 horsepower, 550 Nm torque between 2,000–5,000 rpm

The P300 delivers enhanced, effortless performance from its 3.0L six-cylinder Ingenium engine, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds (0–60 mph in 7.5 seconds). The P400 reaches 0–100 km/h in 6.6 seconds (0–60 mph in 6.3 seconds), offering abundant power and precision.

Every Defender 130 comes standard with Land Rover’s intelligent all-wheel drive (iAWD) system and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The iAWD technology efficiently manages the drivetrain and intelligently distributes power between the front and rear axles, optimizing both on-road efficiency and off-road capability as needed.

The electronic air suspension allows up to 430 mm of ground clearance, with an additional 71.5 mm of lift at the front (73.5 mm at the rear) for off-road driving, helping clear obstacles and aiding in water wading—this new Defender 130 model can handle water depths of up to 900 mm. Off-road capability is managed through Land Rover’s Terrain Response® system, allowing drivers to customize driving modes for any terrain via the Pivi Pro screen.

The Defender 130 offers a towing capacity of up to 3,000 kg, and hitching is made easier with the electronic air suspension—controlled via a switch inside the tailgate. Detachable and multi-height tow bars are available for effortless towing.
