Hyundai Motor has unveiled a futuristic design derived from its new generation of compact, small SUVs, the Kona. The upgraded model will be available in four variants: fully electric (EV), hybrid electric (HEV), internal combustion engine (ICE), and the sporty N Line version, all sharing a global platform with unique designs tailored to each variant.
With the completely redesigned Kona, Hyundai Motor reaffirms its commitment to sustainable mobility and technology-driven design, expanding its electric vehicle offerings—crafted and developed through the award-winning IONIQ lineup—to meet diverse customer mobility needs with a wide range of powertrains.
The all-new Kona has evolved into a larger compact SUV while retaining its urban-centric focus, featuring a bolder design that delivers a more dynamic presence on the road and a driver-oriented interior. To offer enhanced living space, the new model has grown to 4,355 mm in length—150 mm longer than its predecessor—based on the EV platform. It also gained 25 mm in width and a wheelbase increase of 60 mm compared to the previous model, without compromising its distinctive design identity.
Unlike most vehicles offered with multiple powertrain options, the Kona was initially designed as an EV model, which was then adapted for the ICE, HEV, and sporty N Line variants. This unconventional approach allowed Hyundai to bring technology-focused design thinking across all Kona variants. Despite shared architecture, the EV, ICE/HEV, and N Line versions each feature a distinct, forward-looking design.
The Kona’s clear and distinctive front end features a clean, open front section that enhances aerodynamic performance. A smooth, horizontal light bar highlights this openness, pixelated on the EV model—marking Hyundai’s first vehicle to feature a segmented, unbroken horizontal light signature, adding further visual distinction to the electric variant. The use of parametric pixel modules also extends a signature design element from Hyundai’s renowned electric vehicle lineup.
Despite its futuristic appearance, the all-new Kona never loses its identity as a compact SUV. Its dynamic styling is emphasized by bold, sculpted wheel arches incorporating both front and rear lighting, reinforcing the vehicle’s strong character.
The entire Kona is filled with parametric surfaces. The sharp diagonal creases on the sides connect the satin chrome belt line to the spoiler, creating a continuous wrap-around effect around the car. The rear features another Seamless Horizon light bar along with a high-mounted stop lamp (HMSL) seamlessly integrated into the satin chrome spoiler housing.
Differences in design are evident across powertrain variants. The EV model includes pixel-based graphics on the grille and rear bumper, 19-inch metallic wheels inspired by pixel patterns, a black accent line, optional black side mirrors and roof. Both ICE and HEV models share a bold, rugged bumper and skid plate design, along with black wheel arch cladding. The N Line version features optional black side mirrors and roof, a side wing, more aggressive front and rear styling with a wing-shaped bumper emphasizing its low stance, distinctive 19-inch metallic wheels, dual exhaust tips, and silver side skirts.
The twin 12.3-inch wide screens and floating unit create a high-tech impression. Ambient lighting enhances user experience and comfort. The shift-by-wire lever has been relocated from the center console to behind the steering wheel, providing a cleaner layout and additional storage space in the central tunnel.
The flat, uninterrupted second-row seat enhances the urban design aesthetic of the Kona for the 21st century. This spacious cabin offers a unique experience combining maximum usability, comfort, and practicality. Ample storage space is available behind the second row.
