General Motors conducts detailed local testing of new Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 and GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate trucks

Updated 02:56 AM,Jun 26,2022

General Motors is set to make a major impact in the pickup truck segment this year with the introduction of the all-new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra lineup, featuring two completely redesigned trims: the all-new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2, which stands as Chevrolet’s latest trailblazing off-road pickup, and the groundbreaking 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate—the most advanced and luxurious Sierra ever created. Prior to their launch, both trucks underwent rigorous local testing across diverse terrains in the UAE, including rugged desert dunes, city streets, and highways, ensuring these fully redesigned vehicles—highly anticipated by customers—are perfectly tailored to meet regional demands upon their official market debut.

General Motors has long been renowned for producing exceptional vehicles, built on over a century of engineering excellence. From iconic models like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban to the GMC Yukon and GMC Terrain, the company has consistently driven innovation in mobility and advanced technology, positioning itself as a leader in reshaping the future of transportation.

The all-new 2022 Silverado ZR2 establishes itself as the definitive factory-built off-road variant in the Chevrolet lineup, engineered for peak performance on challenging terrain. The ZR2 underwent extensive real-world testing across a wide range of environments—from sand dunes and rocky trails in Michigan and Utah, through the rugged mountains of Tennessee, to the harsh deserts of Arizona and California, and now including the demanding landscapes of Dubai’s desert and other rugged terrain features across the UAE.

The new ZR2 features significant upgrades to its suspension system, enhanced off-road driving technologies, and refined exterior design, all aimed at elevating its capability and performance across key attributes such as electrically locking differentials, improved approach angles, reinforced underbody skid plates, Multimatic DSSV dampers, and enhanced towing and payload capacities.

As part of this effort, General Motors’ local quality team conducted a comprehensive three-month in-country evaluation program, rigorously inspecting every new feature of the Silverado ZR2 to ensure optimal performance in the Middle East. The team verified that underbody skid plates effectively protect the chassis from impacts and sharp abrasions during off-road adventures, and that dual exhaust pipes mounted beneath the rear bumper remain well-protected against local terrain hazards. Additionally, the impressive 31.8-degree approach angle was tested across varied surfaces, including sand dunes and canyon bottoms.

A critical requirement for any off-road vehicle in the Middle East is reliable air conditioning and engine cooling performance due to extreme heat. During local driving tests to assess quality and evaluate off-road performance, the General Motors quality team collected, monitored, and analyzed data on cabin and engine cooling using thermal imaging and vehicle diagnostic software. These findings were reviewed, issues identified, and reported back to engineering teams in the United States.

The all-new 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate represents the most advanced and luxurious trim level yet for the Sierra lineup, raising the Denali sub-brand to new heights of elegance and high-performance capability.

Unique exterior design elements, exclusive interior features, and standard enhancements—including a proprietary CarbonPro cargo box offering one of the best short-bed load capacities in its class—set a new benchmark for luxury truck owners seeking an elevated experience. Similarly, the local quality team focused on delivering a smooth, comfortable ride by adhering to strict NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) and road-riding performance standards, evaluating suspension systems to ensure a refined experience on asphalt and speed bumps alike.

The team also ensures that interior improvements go beyond aesthetics, delivering a truly premium 360-degree driver experience. Through specialized NVH and road-riding tests, they assess sound levels within the cabin, identifying any creaks, squeaks, or unusual noises that could compromise the luxurious feel of the interior.

One essential evaluation conducted locally involves confirming that the integrated Google system is fully customized for the regional market and supports Arabic language interaction to maximize functionality. This is especially important, as the substantial volume of Arabic-language content related to local points of interest directly influences the overall user experience. Ensuring this localization is critical to maintaining General Motors’ commitment to delivering a premium driving experience across the region. This test is therefore a vital component of the quality validation process before the vehicles’ release.

After thorough validation of performance and capabilities, the all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra lineups will be available at dealerships starting July 2022. Further details will be shared following the official market launch. General Motors encourages customers to stay tuned for more updates!
