The first vehicles of the new BMW 7 Series have rolled off the production lines at BMW's Dingolfing plant. In a dual launch, the brand introduced its latest flagship model, offering both a high-efficiency internal combustion engine variant and the fully electric BMW i7.
BMW Group invested over 300 million euros to upgrade the Dingolfing plant for manufacturing the new 7 Series. As part of its ongoing vision for future production, the facility is being transformed into a BMW iFACTORY, embodying the principles of "Lean. Green. Digital." For the first time, automated operations are being implemented within the production environment during the manufacture of the BMW 7 Series, enhancing assembly processes and logistics efficiency.
With production now underway, customer deliveries will begin this fall once sales teams receive the necessary demonstration and display vehicles. The new BMW 7 Series will be available worldwide, with the BMW i7 marking the next milestone in BMW's electric mobility campaign for luxury vehicles—a role that Dingolfing has become synonymous with. Milan Nedeljković, Member of the Board, said: "Exactly one year ago, we were here celebrating the start of production for our BMW iX. Today, the BMW i7 represents our latest achievement on this journey."
The Green aspect of the BMW iFACTORY and sustainable production at Dingolfing are achieved through multiple initiatives. These include 100% renewable energy supply, reuse of hundreds of existing production robots in the body shop, and reduced resource consumption in the paint shop.
Additionally, the Dingolfing plant currently recycles over 90% of its waste and reuses materials at a rate exceeding 99%. In 2021, this resulted in only 580 grams of residual waste per vehicle produced.
Dingolfing, located in Lower Bavaria, has been home to the BMW 7 Series since 1977, now producing the seventh generation. To date, the plant has manufactured over 11 million BMW vehicles, with an upcoming milestone this year—the production of the two-millionth 7 Series vehicle on the assembly line.
