BMW unveiled its most powerful BMW M vehicle to date, the BMW Concept XM, during the Art Basel event held on the Miami Beach in 2021, with a planned launch set for the end of next year. The concept offers a first glimpse into the new front-end design language for upcoming BMW luxury models, while also presenting a comprehensive and distinctive vision of the BMW X lineup, showcasing a completely reimagined sense of luxury and interior spaciousness.
The all-electric driving range reaches up to 80 kilometers. The newly developed M hybrid powertrain combines an eight-cylinder engine with a high-performance electric motor, delivering a peak output of 550 kilowatts (750 horsepower) and maximum torque of 1,000 newton-meters.
The BMW Concept XM features a fresh and advanced front-end design for BMW's luxury lineup, which will debut in production form starting in 2022. The new XM emblem on the dual grille and large air intakes signal the presence of the V8 engine, working in synergy with the electric motor to create the M Hybrid system.
Distinctive M-specific exterior mirrors give the car a refined, tech-forward, and sporty appearance. The rear wheel cover on the left front wheel serves as a subtle reminder of the active M Hybrid drive system.
The elongated body sits on lightweight alloy wheels measuring 23 inches, enhancing the vehicle’s visual strength and structural rigidity from the side profile.
Inside the BMW Concept XM, drivers experience a uniquely designed M-centric cockpit focused entirely on the driver. Special materials and bold, expressive surfaces transform the rear seats into a distinctive M-style retreat. Dark-tinted rear windows reinforce a constant sense of privacy. The large rear seat provides ample comfort for relaxation. Only the diamond-shaped section within the headrests—featuring support functions found in other BMW M performance models—is trimmed in leather. The lower parts of the seats offer exceptional comfort, enhanced by luxurious velvet upholstery.
