Exactly 70 years after the first appearance of the Corvette at the Motorama event in New York City, Chevrolet returns to shine with the debut of the first-ever electric Corvette featuring all-wheel drive. The 2024 E-Ray model combines a powerful, compact 6.2-liter LT2 V-8 engine with an electric powertrain, delivering a dynamic and high-performance driving experience.
The new E-Ray is designed to be a versatile sports car that can handle any season or terrain. Available as a coupe with a removable roof or as an open-top model with a retractable hardtop, it enhances driving dynamics with electric assistance, offering exceptional straight-line performance and refined handling—achievable only through its electric all-wheel-drive (eAWD) system.
What sets the E-Ray apart is its unique ability to seamlessly integrate two distinct power sources: the naturally aspirated V-8 engine and the precise electric response from the eAWD system. This synergy makes it truly one-of-a-kind among sports cars.
The E-Ray is the fastest production Corvette ever built, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and completing a quarter-mile in under 10.5 seconds at high speed.
Instant, linear torque delivery—especially at low RPMs—is central to the Corvette driving experience, and the E-Ray excels in this regard. It’s powered by a compact 6.2-liter LT2 V-8 engine producing 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, routed to the rear axle. An electric motor supplements this with an additional 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque, drawing energy from a 1.9 kWh battery pack located between the seats. Together, the combined output reaches 655 horsepower across both systems.
The intelligent eAWD system continuously monitors road conditions, adapting smoothly to varying grip levels and driver demands. During high-speed driving or on low-traction surfaces, it directs more power to the front wheels, enhancing stability and control.
There’s no need to plug in the E-Ray’s battery. It recharges through regenerative braking and energy recovery during coasting and normal driving, ensuring continuous operation without external charging.
The E-Ray can operate in pure electric mode under specific conditions, thanks to two driver-selectable electric settings. The electric motor also boosts performance on racetracks.
In Stealth Mode, the car runs entirely on electric power. Once selected at startup, it enables silent, emission-free driving for a set duration before the internal combustion engine engages. Designed for quiet urban departure, it allows speeds up to 45 mph. The engine automatically activates when the speed limit is exceeded, torque demand increases, or the battery level drops.
For enhanced track performance, the eAWD system delivers torque to the front axle as needed. The Charge+ feature helps maximize battery charge, enabling more laps on the track.
The high-performance traction management (PTM) system has been specifically tuned to work in harmony with the eAWD setup, optimizing grip and responsiveness.
The 2024 Corvette E-Ray will be available in the Middle East by the end of this year.
