Chevrolet unveils Corvette Z06 GT3.R for 2024 racing season

Updated 05:38 PM,Feb 7,2023

Chevrolet has unveiled its new race car, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, ahead of its debut in major competitions at the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R made its public debut on the Daytona International Speedway track just before the start of the Rolex 24 race. It is Chevrolet’s first race car fully compliant with FIA technical regulations for GT3 vehicles.

The mid-engine design and development of the Z06 GT3.R result from a close collaboration between General Motors’ Competition Motorsports Engineering division and Pratt Miller Engineering. With a strong focus on customer racing, the Z06 GT3.R will be eligible to compete in numerous championships across North America and globally, backed by extensive technical support and parts availability for customers.

As part of this initiative, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R will make its competitive debut in the GT Daytona (GTD) PRO class during the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona, launching the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R is a standout race car from Chevrolet, based on the high-performance mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The new race car elevates technology sharing between racing and production to an entirely new level, incorporating more shared components and features than ever before.

The Z06 GT3.R is powered by a 5.5-liter DOHC V-8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft derived from the production Z06. Development of this engine began on race tracks as early as 2019, with initial testing conducted on the C8.R before its use in the production Z06.

The LT6 engine for the GT3.R is manufactured at the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green—the same production line used to build all production Corvette Z06 engines.

The 5.5-liter engine shares over 70% of its components with the production Z06 engine, including the crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder heads, fuel pumps, coils, spark plugs, and various sensors.

Chevrolet and Corvette Racing will target major sports car racing championships in 2024, participating in events across North America and internationally.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will feature up to four Corvette Z06 GT3.R entries, competing in both the GTD PRO and GTD classes, starting with the 2024 Rolex 24.

For the FIA World Endurance Championship, two Corvette chassis will be entered, with hopes of a double entry in the upcoming GT class, which will include the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Chevrolet Motorsports will also evaluate opportunities to participate in SRO Motorsports events, including SRO America and the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
