Audi has unveiled its latest concept vehicle in the futuristic series—the Audi activesphere concept. Following the 2021 reveal of the Audi skysphere roadster and the April 2022 launches of the Audi grandsphere saloon and Audi urbansphere concepts, the Audi activesphere now makes its debut as a four-door, coupe-style crossover with a dynamic, adaptable design.
With an elegant length of 4.98 meters, this vehicle is more than just a luxury sports car. It features a high ground clearance and large 22-inch wheels, highlighting its off-road capabilities. The rear section can transform into an open cargo compartment with a single button press—a feature designed to perfectly accommodate recreational gear.
Powered by the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform’s advanced electric drivetrain and fast-charging technology, the Audi activesphere concept can travel over 600 kilometers on a single charge. Its 800-volt charging system significantly reduces charging times, enabling long-distance driving without emissions while maintaining sustainability and dynamic performance.
The activesphere concept is the first vehicle to feature this cutting-edge technology, which seamlessly integrates real-world and digital experiences. The system delivers exceptional precision, a highly clear graphical interface, and excellent contrast. Controls and displays appear within the driver’s field of view but are only visible when using mixed-reality tools.
Equipped with Audi’s adaptive air suspension and adaptive dampers, the activesphere features a five-link axle setup connecting front and rear wheels. Dual electric motors on both axles deliver full all-wheel drive, generating a combined output of 325 kilowatts and 720 Newton-meters of torque.
The 800-volt charging technology serves as the core of the vehicle’s performance, marking its first application in mid- and large-sized luxury vehicles. Like the e-tron GT quattro, it enables battery charging at up to 270 kilowatts in very short time intervals at fast-charging stations.
The Premium Platform Electric reduces charging times to approach those of conventional fueling. A mere ten minutes of charging can provide enough power for over 300 kilometers of range. Charging from 5% to 80% takes less than 25 minutes for the 100-kilowatt-hour battery. This makes the activesphere concept ideal for long trips, thanks to its rapid charging and extended range beyond 600 kilometers between charges.
